On June 2, 2023, three trains collided in Balasore district, in the state of Odisha in eastern India leaving 288 dead and more than 1000 injured. The local population joined the rescue and relief efforts.  The volunteers  from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS) and RSS-inspired organisations were  amongst the first ones to  join this community effort. More than 500-unit blood was donated by RSS volunteers. The blood bank was packed with donors when hundreds of victims of the Balasore train accident were brought to the hospital. On Saturday, people were turned away as the authorities informed of the blood stock.

The volunteers of the Sangh have donated about 500 units of blood. After this gruesome train accident near Bahanaga railway station in Balasore district, Sangh volunteers immediately reached the spot.

The volunteers had reached there even before the NDRF and administration teams reached the spot.  In order that there was no delay in rescue, the volunteers started taking the injured to the hospital … Swayamsevak Ramesh kept going inside the bogie in adverse circumstances and took out the injured the whole night and other Swayamsevaks kept taking them to the hospital.

Around 300 volunteers donated blood and got other people to donate blood for the injured passengers. Volunteers were also engaged in helping the relatives of the passengers who lost their lives in this horrific accident. Volunteers associated with the service department of the Sangh were also active in the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Sangh’s regional service chief Jagdish Khadanga and state service chief Shantanu Majhi were also present at the accident site and this work was done under their direct supervision.

Odisha Train Incident: Over 1000 RSS and ABVP karyakartas(volunteers) come forward to help survivors; join in rescue operations

Such devastating times, the Sangh karyakarta(volunteer) are also present on the accident site, serving humanity. More than 1000 karyakarta and Swayamsevaks of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) are working round the clock since the incident took place.

Talking with organiser one such ABVP karyakarta, Lakshmi said as many as 600 karyakartas have been deployed at the Balasore hospital helping people with identifying their relatives and family members. Some 100 karyakartas are providing telephones and mobiles to those who have lost their phones and looking for their respective family members.

Around 200 karyakartas are present at the Balasore hospital helping the family with the identification of the dead bodies and providing the diseased family with food and water. A thousands of Karyakarta’s are out on streets, helping with the rescue operation.

RSS ABVP Bajrang Dal were among first to reach accident spot in Odisha to help in rescue RSS, ABVP and Bajrang Dal activists helped in rescue operations, provided assistance to victims’ families at the hospital. Hundreds of activists not only helped in saving hundreds of lives at the accident spot but also lined up for hours to donate blood.

As per reports, RSS activists reached the accident site at around 7:30 PM, soon after the accident took place. As there is a small Shakha in the village nearby, a few RSS activists were able to reach but soon around 250 RSS were at the accident spot helping in the operation. Speaking to the organiser, ABVP Karyakarta Lakshmi said around 600 activists of RSS were deployed at Balasore Hospital to help the families to identify their relatives. From providing food to assisting in making calls to ensure the families reunite, the members of Hindu organisations stayed at hospitals and accident sites around the clock.

Hundreds of RSS workers first arrived to help the victims of Odisha train accident

It is being told that if the workers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) did not arrive on time, the number of deaths could have been much higher. According to the report, hundreds of Sangh workers had reached the spot and engaged in relief and rescue work even before the NDRF team arrived. The accident took place near Mahanaga village in Balasore, Odisha’s state publicity head Ravinnarayan Panda said. Many Sangh workers live in Mahanga Along with this, RSS workers are also active in the district. The accident took place at 6:50 pm. After getting information from WhatsApp messages, RSS workers reached the accident site by 7 ‘o’clock. After this, they opened the doors of the train and started evacuating the injured. Also, with the help of local people, the injured were taken to the hospital through tractors, bikes and cars.

Harendra, a local RSS worker, says that more than 1000 RSS workers have come forward to help the people. Those who donated blood at night had been arranging food and water for the injured and their kin since morning. Along with this, Sangh workers are helping in reuniting the injured with their families.

On the one hand, some Sangh workers were helping the people trapped in the train and the injured. At the same time, some other workers reached the hospital to give blood to the injured. The doctors of the hospital were also stunned to see the crowd of youth of the Sangh who came to donate blood. In fact, along with sending information about the accident to the RSS WhatsApp group of Balasore, a request was also made to donate blood. After this, the workers reached the hospital.  At the same time, many Bajrang Dal activists also reached the hospital for blood donation and helped every victim in every possible way, irrespective of caste and religion. Bajrang Dal activists also distributed food packets among the victims.

Odisha train accident: Volunteers of RSS donated blood and are still engaged in relief efforts

According to Sangh’s Prant Prachar Pramukh Ravi Narayan Panda, after the train accident near Bahnaga railway station in Balasore district, volunteers reached the spot and joined hands with NDRF and administration teams to help the victims.

He said that a small number of volunteers had reached in the beginning due to the presence of Sangh’s branch in village Bahanaga near the spot. But by nightfall, about 250 volunteers started helping the accident site along with the soldiers engaged in administration and relief work. The volunteers also did the work of taking the injured to the hospital by auto, motorcycle.

According to Panda, the volunteers initially donated around 300 units of blood under the supervision of Sangh officials, later this number reached 500 units. Even now the volunteers are engaged in blood donation and other work. The volunteers also helped the relatives of the injured to contact the victims through their mobiles.

After the railway accident, the Government has put into place appropriate relief measures even at hospitals. At the same time, some social organisations and devout Hindu organisations have also reached here for assistance. RSS and Bajrang Dal are involved in this relief work.

The official Twitter account of Bajrang Dal informs that RSS and Bajrang Dal activists have arranged for food, water, juice and other necessities at the hospitals. Also, many of them are donating blood. More than 250 activists of both organisations reached the accident site and helped in rescuing the injured from the coaches and taking them to the hospital.

RSS State Prachar Pramukh, Ravi Narayan Panda said,’ Many RSS workers reside in the Bahanaga village where the accident took place. The moment they came to know about the accident they reached the site and started the rescue work. They used 4-wheelers, 2-wheelers, tractors and other means to carry the injured to the hospital.

After the terrible train accident in Odisha’s Balasore, hundreds of RSS Swayamsevaks engaged in relief and rescue work. The Swayamsevaks of the organization have donated around 500 units of blood. After this terrible train accident that happened near Bahanga railway station, as usual, the Sangh Swayamsevak were the first to reach the spot with locals. Swayamsevaks reached the spot by 7.30 pm before the NDRF and administration team reached the spot. In order not to delay the rescue operation, the Swayamsevaks immediately started taking the injured to the hospital.
